Program Note
Gyubin (Jang Gyu-ri), a poor college student, finds herself in a desperate situation with no place to live. Struggling just to stay in school, she cannot afford the hefty deposit required for a rental room, nor does she have any means to secure it. While searching desperately, she comes across a program that matches students with elderly people living alone. Reluctantly, she signs up and finds a place—only to discover, by chance, that it’s a luxurious apartment belonging to the elegant older woman Geum-rim (Bae Jong-ok). It seems like the perfect home. But not for long. Strange occurrences begin to happen inside the apartment, and from its very opening, My Home builds an atmosphere of genuine dread, eventually evolving into a full-fledged horror film. Filled with vile desires, shamanistic curses, a tightly constructed narrative, and relentless apparitions that leave no room to breathe, the film accelerates its horror engine and transforms this ‘perfect house’ into a nightmare. At the same time, it probes deeply into the desires and psyches of people crushed by deprivation, dissecting the very fabric of our lives. (HONG Eunmi)
