Those Beautiful Years, Ahn Sung-ki

This Special Program in Focus commemorates Ahn Sung-ki, a towering figure in Korean film history. The program features six of his key films: A Fine, Windy Day (1980), Whale Hunting (1984), Chil-su and Man-su (1988), Gagman (1988), White Badge (1992), and Festival (1996). The selection is centered on the list of representative works chosen by the actor himself when BIFF proposed the retrospective during his lifetime. These titles highlight his close collaborations with the era's master directors during the 1980s and 1990s, the peak of his public acclaim. They represent not only the golden years of his acting career, but also a memorable era achieved by Korean cinema through his body of work. The program will feature Guest Visits (GV) and Special Talk with guest speakers and moderators. Additionally, the festival will publish a commemorative book, Between the Adventurous and Exemplary – Ahn Sung-ki, Actor of His Time, serving as a foundation for research and discussion on his legacy.
