Program Note
Blues-jazz singer Sam continues to make music after his wife Josephine dies. While he is watching [Some Like It Hot] in the hotel room where they first met, a woman who has just had a fight with her boyfriend runs into his bathroom to hide. After locking herself in, the woman named Pi asks him to sing a song without lyrics. This is a love story full of beautiful energy radiated by music and youth. With the love between a young jazz singer and painter at its core, the movie deals with possibility of a new love in life. The entire movie demonstrates outstanding production in creating the underground atmosphere. The power music aspires in communication is expressed through the humming conversation without words with the bathroom door in between, and in the scene where blues-jazz intermingles with African American rap. Handsome British actor Rupert Friend([The Young Victoria], [Pride & Prejudice]), French model and actress Clemence Poesy([Harry Potter]), and Best Actor Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker come together in this movie by a talented French director.
