“I won’t waver. I won’t be swept away.” Navier (Shin Mina), the empress and a formidable kingmaker in her own right, suddenly learns that the emperor intends to divorce her. But rather than be drawn into a familiar rivalry with another woman, she chooses a new land and a new destiny. Based on the popular web novel of the same name, The Remarried Empress combines the dazzling spectacle of romantic fantasy with a political drama of power, weaving in subtle undercurrents of anger and disappointment. Navier’s decision is not a fallback after the failure of love, but a political choice to reclaim her agency and the course of her life from a system that has worn her down. Navier, dignified yet solitary; Sovieshu (Ju Jihoon), impossible to read; Rashta (Lee Seyoung), hiding shadows behind an innocent face; and Heinrey (Lee Jongsuk), who moves freely between human and non-human form. The familiar characters of the original work come vividly to life, as the desires and competing interests of these four set its vast fictional world into motion. (CHA Hanbi)
