After a scandalous proposal stunt staged during a livestream at an underground columbarium site overseas, YouTuber Princess Maria and her lover A-Yue suffer a spectacular fall from grace. Sometime later, a mysterious video arrives from an unknown sender, and Maria discovers the legendary dollmaker Madame Dolly in it. The couple accepts her enigmatic invitation, hoping to make a comeback with videos about Dolly and her mysterious personal life. This very first Taiwanese feature-length rotoscoped animation uses the distinct effect of rotoscoping, based on live-action footage, to hold its characters somewhere between human and doll to create the eerie sensation of the ‘uncanny valley.’ With an Art Deco-inspired mise-en-scene and touches of gothic horror, this psychological horror fantasy offers a portrait of the contemporary world where people crave ‘likes’ and their souls are held hostage by the gazes of others.
