In a mountain village in Colorado, 1951, Mike’s mother, Louise, suddenly disappears into a blizzard. Setting out on a search with his father, Lester, Mike begins to wonder whether his mother, who understood the weather better than anyone, merely lost her way, or if she sought to escape an isolated life. As the snow-covered mountains sink into silence, the search gradually settles into a daily routine, and the father and son clumsily carry on the domestic chores Louise once handled. Director Andrew Haigh, who has portrayed characters finding their place amid loss and yearning, adapts Colm Toibin’s short story to contemplate the void left by those who depart and the nameless emotions that sprout within the cracks. Climbing mountain paths with Jimmy, who helps around the house, Mike thinks they might finally find his mother when spring arrives. He also writes letters to his younger brother Tommy, who left home to fight in the Korean War, while secretly hoping that this long winter will never end. (HAM Yoonjeong)
