Program Note

When a transfer student is introduced and tells her new classmates she’s not looking for any friends, the ostracized Yoko immediately pursues a friendship with her. Transferring humorously and sympathetically depicts the warm burgeoning friendship between two lonely girls, and explores the social issues of ostracism and universal truths of human relationships. Junichi KANAI

Born in 1983, he started making documentaries and video works at University. In 2006 he joined the ENBU seminar to learn the skills of making moving pictures. In 2009, his short film, <Courtship> was nominated by 2009 SKIP City International D-Cinema Festival for feature competition. Made with the support of New Directions in Japanese Cinema Project, his <PEDAL> was invited to Dubai Film Festival and Hong Long Independent Film Festival 2010.
