Program Note
This satiric story of two soldiers from enemy camps takes place in 1993 during the war in Bosnia. A Bosnian soldier named Ciki and his seriously wounded companion find themselves in a trench with Nino, a Serbian soldier. Soon enough, they begin with insults and recriminations, arguing about which country started the circle of violence. As Ciki and Nino try to figure a way out of their bizarre predicament, a brave UN sergeant, Marchand is trying his best to help them, despite being ordered not to intervene, and the press corps follow, turning a news story into an international incident. In a tense stand off between the many sides involved in the conflict and with the world′s press waiting for an outcome, two soldiers desperately try to negotiate for their lives amidst the insanity of war.
