Program Note
The young are leaving for the cities, and only the old remain in the traditional village. There was once abundant work, but the old are dying and the labor is vanishing, and so the village, too, Is dyllng-Costas Ghoussis is an emigrant worker, coming home from forejan fields, spade propped on his snoulder. Eleni is his wife, lonely from his long absence in Germany, Christos is a gamekeeper as well as the iover Eleni took during her husband′s time away. As Costas opens the door and steps into his home, ne is set upon by Eleni and Christos, and strangled. Costas′ sister suspects the two, alerts the police, and eventually tney confess to their crime - accusing each other. The rest of the film reconstructs the events leading to the murder, beginning as it began and harboring no secrets. Based on a true event, Reconstruction never depicts the central crime on screen. Instead, it uses that crime as a starting point with which to illustrate an order that has been disrupted and to contemplate the death of an entire village.
