Program Note
The lives of several upper class, thirty-something Jakartans are boldly revealed for the first time in Indonesian cinema. The film follows the career and social life of three life-long friends who seem to have conquered the metropolitan. Unfortunately, the truth is not exactly as pretty as the impression.

Nia DINATA
Nia diNata’s film debut was the semi-colossal epic, [Cabaukan], which won her an award for Best Promising New Director in the 2002 Asia Pacific Film Festival. [The Gathering] is her second feature film and was the first Indonesian film to deal with the issue of being a homosexual in a predominantly Moslem country. diNata has a background in mass-communication and received her film training from New York University.
