Program Note
A man makes a pact with a magician and swaps his shadow for riches. He soon discovers hat uno absence of a shadow can be a humiliating handicap. After fleeing to the far corners of the earth, he ends up in Ball, In a theater of shadow puppets, where he discovers the true worth of shadows. L′Homme sans Ombre is an adaptation of Adelbert von Chamisso′s The Strange Story of Peter Schlemihl (1814), a fantastic tale inspired by Goethe′s Faust.

George SCHWIZGEBEL
Georges Schwizgebel was born in 1944 in Switzerland. From 1960 to 1965, he studied at the Ecold des Beaux-Arts et des Arts décoratifs in Geneva. In 1970, he founded Studio GDS with Claude Luyet and Daniel Suter. Ten years late, he was creating his own animations films. A master of the art of animated drawings and cel animation, Schwizgebel has directed over 15 animation films, many of which have won prizes in leading festivals around the world.
