Director Carl Johan De Geer grew up in an upper class home with his grandparents, his parens Iiving in another country altogether. As a teenager, he left his affluent home behind and set out to forge a completely different life for himself. De Geer became a bohemian, delved into the arts through photography and went socialist. He became a professional observer - and the camera became a tool that separated him from humanity and community. Now in middle age, De deer is trying to make sense of his life. By mixing fact with fiction, documentary with narrative, De Geer comes face to face with his demons and analyzes his simultaneous love and hatred of his feudal past. His painful childhood was touched on in De Geer′s 2001 short documentary Grandmother, Hitler and I. In that film, he explored his grandmother′s Nazi leanings that continued on well past the end of the Second World War. Hiding Behind the Camera Part 2 takes up after that film, with De Geer this time trying to make sense of his life in that kind of shadow.
