Program Note

There are over 70,000 domestic helpers from the Philippines living and working in Singapore. Myla, who latively new to Singapore, wins the "She s My Girl" title in a beauty contest for overseas Filipino kors Vicky has been in Singapore for about nine years. After some unfortunate experiences, she de kucky when a British expatriate hires her to serve a kind family. Bing, the veteran of the three, has been in Singapore for over 17 years, but has yet to find her place in the sun. They are just three. The traditional poetic balagtasan is the vehicle that debates the issue of sending Filipina workers overseas.

Clodualdo DEL MUNDO JR

Presently, Dr. Clodualdo del Mundo, Jr. is the chair of the Department of Communications at De La Salle University in Manila. He is also a screenwriter and has been awarded for his work in various feature films, such as [Maynila….In the Claws of Light](1975), [Mulanay](1996) and [Third World Hero](1999). One of his major written works is [Native Resistance: Philippine Cinema and Colonialism 1898-1941]. He has directed several documentaries and films/videos.
