Program Note
The life of two brothers is shattered by the sudden appearance of their father, who has been virtually non-existent in their lives until that point. In fact, the only way they know their father is
from a 10-year-old photograph. As much as his absence has created a dark ache in the household he left over a decade earlier, his return introduces a new oppressive force - a
complicity of silence. They are surrounded by resounding questions. Is he really their father? Why has he come back after so many years? These answers are not forthcoming. The brothers
agree to accompany their father on a fishing trip to a remote island, and as the country roads unfold before them, the battle of wills between the estranged family intensifies, along with heir
suspicious over the man′s identity and a foreboding of violence. With its elegiac mood and pulse-quickening suspense, this film is an unforgettable depiction of the primal longing for a father. The
rugged beauty of the northern lakes and forests adds a peculiar dimension to this unfolding drama.
