Program Note
Tom is an American songwriter. He′s in Germany, after years on the road, for one last club tour that he is obligated to do. Lacking motivation and mired in a creative slump, he′s ready to go home.Tom Natascha is a Russian dancer. Her ballet career never blossomed the way she had hoped it would, and she is in Germany to marry a wealthy man, Karl, that she doesn′t love. At the last minute, she runs away. Tom and Natascha cross paths in Kaliningrad. Neither of them is interested in a serious relationship, and they fight all urges to the contrary. But destiny takes over. They each want love and security, and are aware that they each need to make a change, though that may be difficult -if not impossible. Honey Baby was inspired by the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, and is sentimental, dark, comical and bizarre. With Tom standing in for Orpheus and Natascha doubling for Eurydice, it i a surreal, sweeping love story that crosses Europe - from Germany to northern Russia.
