Program Note
Santiago Roman, a 23-year-old soldier, is back in Lima after years of fighting terrorist subversion and drug-trafficking inside his own country and during the war against Ecuador. He is part of a lost generation - those who paid for the political irresponsibilities of their governments. Santiago finds Lima as a hostile, chaotic and decadent city, and his family mirrors that. He wants to fit in and help to make things better for himself, his family and his society. He is trying to adapt to civil life but his memories won′t let him be at peace with himself. Santiago has a soldier′s mind and thinks that everything is possible if you fight for it. He wants to establish his own sense of order. Society and people, however, move at their own pace. They didn′t wait for him; they even forgot about him. Santiago will realize things are not as he wanted to see them. Days of Santiago is a story about a man′s search for order and balance in a chaotic world.
