Program Note
How does one bear the unbearable? That is the essential question for Claes and Britt, a couple in their mid-thirties. Britt is a social worker specializing in inadequate families and Claes is an architect. Their relationship and their lives came to a halt five months ago when they lost their daughter in a road accident. They can′t get over their grief. Britt tries to work her way out of her trauma but Claes copes so badly at work that he gets fired. Britt and Claes now set out onto two different slippery slopes; she becomes involved with a single mother and in particular the single mother′s baby, far exceeding the bounds of professional interest and literally taking her work home with her. Claes begins to stalk Annette, the woman who killed his daughter, and has dreams in which he kills her. Britt and Claes end up painting themselves into a corner. She clashes with the single mother and Claes visits Annette at home and finds her drunk - two showdowns that may easily prove disastrous.
