Program Note
Nazanin is a medical student moved to Tehran having a problem getting into the school dormitory, so that she has to find a rent. Although she has to support herself by giving private lessons to kids to buy books, she has good fortune to find a cheap room. However, the kind-looking flatmate hosts parties with her friends at home every night, and she even suffers from bipolar disorder. After all, the flatmate got arrested by police and put in a jail for unclear reasons. Knowing more about the
flatmate’s misfortune this naive girl Nazanin tries to help her as a gesture of good will, but only to get herself into an endangered situation. Parviz Shahbazi is excellent at cinematic techniques to make the audience feeling empathy with ease by depicting commonly looking characters and familiar details in daily lives. His films subsequently have been audience friendly and commercially successful. His distinguished talent is to direct the inconveniences in everyday life, which do exist but are habitually ignored. When man's selfishness and desires degrade each other making goodwill fades, his point of view soon turns compelling. (PARK Sungho)
