Program Note
After studying in France for five and a half years, R. is reunited with J, who he lived with in France, two years later in Seoul. He wants to make love right when they meet, but she refuses, leaving him alone in a cheap hotel room. R sees his family in Taegu and seeks a divorce from his estranged wife who refuses and threatens to black-mail him. Seeking to lecture part-time, R frequently goes to Seoul to see J. who intentionally refuses his passes. Juxtaposing human contradictions, this film finds the absurd through the usual, reality through artifice in a plot resonant with irony and betrayal.
