Lena is in her eighth month of pregnancy. The child′s father has left her. Here, on an almost deserted highway in a desolate hinterland, she runs a small general store where people can also eat and drink. Vilela is hoping to make a fresh start in life far away from all the wrong turns and excesses which characterized his existence in Sao Paulo. Vilela turns up at Lena′s door; all he wants is a place to stay and the opportunity to start life anew.
