Peter Weir′s 1998 film The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey, begins when Truman Burbank discovers that his seemingly ordinary life is actually being broadcast live from a set on a small island. Kim Dukjoong′s The Love of Truman begins when a man on the subway coincidentally meets a woman who introduces herself as Truman. She tells him that this ‘set’ sometimes experiences ‘errors’ and stops working. The man comes to believe her nine months later. However, instead of escaping the set, they search for other ‘Trumans’ like themselves. Then the film itself seems to have an ‘error’ and shifts its protagonist. While it appears ordinary on the surface, audiences will often get lost in its progression no matter how focused they are, and will witness Kim Dukjoong′s own arduous struggle to find what is real among the fakes.
