Program Note
Paralyzed by a serious illness, a boy is left to believe that there is no hope for him. Although he is only able to communicate by moving his toes, his family believes life is so precious that sacrifices should be made at any cost. A documentary about a paralyzed boy and his family′s devotion, love and courage, Wellspring takes a calm and simple look at a family that sticks together. Through the eye of the camera we see compassion, as tears are replaced with praise for the family′s courage and mutual admiration. This view instills the humanistic impression that mankind′s conviction for universal good will is attainable. Wellspring is more than a film seeking empathy for the boy′s perseverance in spite of a diagnosis as incurable and lack of money for medicine. It is about the strength of the whole family and how they must restore the hope to live in their son. (Kang So-won)
