Camille is the star of his school’s boxing team, and his victories make the entire team proud. But after a serious arm injury, he is unable to stay focused. Soon the team’s hierarchy begins to shift, and before long, he finds himself on the outside. The film opens with intense, testosterone-charged boxing scenes but unfolds as a surprisingly quiet and sensitive exploration of boyhood. These boys have trained relentlessly to be strong, and once they step into the ring, they must strike without hesitation. They only have two options: knock down or be knocked down; hunt or be hunted. But is there really no other choice? The brief hesitation before a knockout punch, the silhouette of a champion who doesn’t celebrate, reflect the film’s emotional depth as it explores the other possibilities that exist within its brutal world.
