Program Note
Shot entirely in Morocco and Marrakech, Jacques Doillon′s new film is another of his powerful studies of adolescence. Raja, a beautiful young Moroccan woman, lives life on the streets where she′s constantly hassled by her opportunistic brother and money-hungry lover. When she begins to work for Frederic, a foreigner who lives in a swank house among the palm trees, he falls for her and Raia in turn is attracted to him. She′s also attracted to the things he owns. She doesn′t speak French. He doesn′t speak Arabic. He′s cultivated, she′s from the streets. Their backgrounds mean they′re worlds apart. Can desire bring them together?

Director
Jacques DOILLON
After making his mark as an editor, Jacques Doillon set about becoming a director in 1972 with L ′ an 01, a film he co-directed with Alain Resnais and Jean Rouch. It was his second film that really showed the range of his talent. Touched in the Head is indeed a prototype of Doillon ′ s pet subject: the observation of people in a state of crisis. His films include Le Petit Criminel(1990), Amoureuse, Young Werther, Ponette(1996), Too Much (Little) Love(1998) and Petits Freres.
