Black Rabbit, White Rabbit is the latest fi lm from director Shahram Mokri, who has long explored discomfort and unease through cinematic language involving time loops, the intersection of reality and fantasy, and the entanglement of fate and coincidence. On an ordinary evening in the city, a man engaged in an illegal fi rearm deal at an antique shop loses his life due to carelessness. From there, the seemingly unrelated stories of various people and objects begin to interlock with precision. At the center of it is a director in the background, who is remaking a classic Iranian fi lm in Tajikistan. A props manager anxiously worries that the gun to be used in the shoot might cause an accident. A woman begs for an audition, determined to become an actress even if it means going against her mother’s wishes. Another woman, though married to a wealthy man, grows weary of a life that feels like a prison. The fear that emerges from a society built by imperfect human beings may, perhaps, be part of a much larger picture. (PARK Sungho)
