Program Note
S is a suicide designer who assists people to commit suicide according to a method of their own choosing. When a man′s loved one kills herself, he decides to investigate and discovers that S is behind the suicide. An adaptation of Kim Young-ha′s novel/ Have the Right to Ravage Myself, director Jeon Soo-il moves the subjective perspective of the original novel to that of multiple perspectives, and focuses on the psychological profile of the people tempted to commit suicide. A portrayal of hidden loneliness and emptiness as well as modern people′s desire to end their lives aesthetically. It was PPP′s choice at the 7th Pusan International Film Festival and France′s RG Prince participated in the financing of the film.

Upon graduating Paris Film School, he got his master degree at Paris University 7 (Denis Diderot University) and Paris University 8 (University of Vincennes in Saint-Denis). Based in Busan, he formed an independent filmmakers’ organization, Dongnyeok: Eastern Sky. In 1996, his film [Echoing in My Being] won the Woonpa award at Busan International Film Festival and was presented in Un Certaine Regard at Cannes International Film Festival the following year. His recent films include [Himalaya, Where the Wind Dwells] (2008) and [I Came from Busan] (2009). He is working on his next film [El Cóndor Pasa].
