Two high school friends?one a college freshmen, the other a repeater?pay a visit to a third friend doing his military service. But they have an ulterior motive, which is to deliver a Dear John letter from his lover. For the two hapless buddies, however, even finding their way to the military base is a chore. The film allots a good deal of its running time to the process of their annoying trek, but if you can identify with the pitiful pair, you may find a smile on your face. The trio also forms an accurate portrait, in some ways, of common people: every human life is pitiful to some extent. The three lead actors are so professional they seem like amateurs at first glance, but their foxy performances eventually paint an impressive picture and reveal them for the nuanced turns they are. The blind leading the blind on a ridiculous mission to deliver the mystery letter is one that will surprisingly linger in the mind long after the film is over.
