<b>′99 Vancuver Film Festival, Short Film section</b> The sun rises but, to the hearts of some, it hasn′t shone for sometime. They are the characters in [The Sun Addiction] ,such as a man selling birds to feed his ailing brother, a boy who′s always in squatting position, and a woman who buys a lizard from the man. Confined in a glass box, the lizard doesn′t feast on its food, however. Like the boy, all it does is to squat and search for the sunlight when prompted.
Extinction and alienation, plus moments of loneliness... all can be due to sufferings from the sun addiction. Although everything in this film seems to be uncertain, such as characters′ relationships and the boy′s inexplicable death, these can also be blamed on their inability to see the sunlight for a good while. [The Sun Addiction] is a film in which the glance toward the humanity emits a piercing light from the depths of claustrophobic darkness.
