The perfect family vacation on a beautiful island goes wrong. Maja and her husband, their longtime friend and his younger girlfriend, along with their children arrive at Bornholm. Hints of midlife crisis are scattered about at the beginning the film, but it is not until Maja’s baby boy reveals a secret that all hell breaks loose. This dark comedy directed, produced and starred by women captures the emotional baggage we accumulate through marriage and parenting. Like the despair you feel when you “see the admiration disappear from the eyes of the man you are with”, when you can’t even get mad at the soul-crushing appraisal for being “the best mom”, the urge to let go of everything and jump into the wide blue ocean. Anna Kazejak does not beat around the bush when pointing out how immature, irresponsible men can be, but she certainly does not make any excuses for the bigotry of the women here either. The music is the icing on the cake and perfectly orchestrates the film. (Karen PARK)
