Program Note
For his adaptation of Paolo Cognetti′s novel, Felix Van Groeningen chose to co-direct with Charlotte Vandermeersch, much in the same way as the two characters do in the original work. The film presents a long chronology of the two friends who meet in their early teens. The story is both simple and profound. Between these two friends who travel the eight mountains and the sea, and those who reach the top of a high mountain, who will gain greater enlightenment? Pietro, wanders far away in Nepal, and thinks of his father who longed for such adventures. His friend Bruno hugs the weight of the mountain. With Daniel Norgren′s mournful music providing a perfect background for the action, The Eight Mountains washes our murky eyes and soothes our souls. If you are looking for rest in the mountain, you will be immersed in the beautiful colors of trees, grass, and valleys as well as the charms of the gentle sunlight covering them and the glory of the noble mountain.
