Program Note
After his first fiction feature film, Neither Heaven Nor Earth (2015), Clément Cogitore now explores a dark street of Paris where trafficking is prevalent and alienated people are residing in Sons of Ramses. Ramses is a clairvoyant who is crafty in a way and deceiving in another. Living in the district of La Goutte d′Or, a residential area for the working class, he makes good money, but his job hangs on the verge of illegality. This volatility loses its balance when a group of boys from Tangier comes to the neighborhood to steal since Ramses is the very one who can get closer to them with his special ability. The air of film noir and mysticism in the film are reminiscent of the works of Abel Ferrara and Martin Scorsese. Karim Leklou from The Third War (2020) and BAC Nord (2020) presents brilliant performance in the role of Ramses seeking for morality and truth in the world of lies. (SEO Seunghee)
