Wei Shujun′s third feature Ripples of Life is a collection of three stories about film and the people who make film. The episodes feature different central characters, but they are closely connected to each other. The first story is about an ordinary woman. Watching the film crew who visit her village to shoot a movie, she wonders about the film world. She had been far from the world of films, but she becomes part of the film. In the second story, famous actor Chen Chen returns home for a film shoot. Taking this opportunity, she traces the memories of her past and faces the changed present of her hometown. The third story depicts the conflicts between the director and screenwriter who are filming Ripples of Life. What kind of film will they come to make? Wei Shujun will casually answer: whatever it is, a film is a film after all. (JEONG Jihye)
