Program Note
Mahakapi 95 is based on an ancient jakata tale. A group of monkeys lived in a mango tree by the river. A ripe mango fell into a fisherman′s net. The fisherman took the mango to the king who had never seen such a fruit. The court loved the taste of the unusual fruit and so the royal army went into seize the mango trees. The monkey king sent his monkeys to the other side of the river of safety, laying his body down as a bridge between the branches. When the king saw the monkey king′s supreme sacrifice, the king had a change of heart.
