Program Note
Kunjunni is the man of the story. Entering college, communism is fashionable and he takes it up naturally. But he soon gets disgusted with the existing political parties and true to his convictions, he joins a Maoist faction. Kunjunni, who has been running a print shop in town, is an unmistakable suspect and is arrested when police stations and landlords are attacked. Eventually, he is released from prison when the court judges him not guilty. Now a lonley free man, he searches for his true love, Meenakshi. He finds her, marries her and takes her to his ancestral house.

ADOOR Gopalakrishnan
Born on July 3, 1941, in Kerala, India. Founder of the Chitralekha Film Society of Trivandrum, he has directed seven feature films and more than twenty documentary films. Winner of four National Best Direction Awards, his main works include <Elippathayam, Rat Trap> and <Vidheyan, the Servile>.
