Every night, Mustafa stands on the balcony and greets his wife and children in another house 200 meters away, turning the lights on and off. Although they are physically close to each other, the barriers installed across Palestine make them greatly difficult to get back and forth. To travel from his work to his home, he has to go through arduous and unfriendly administrative procedures, like passing through airport immigration and screening. He suddenly hears the news of his son’s accident, but the barrier is closed due to technical issues. No matter what, he desperately tries to reach to his son even if he has to take a long detour. The first feature film of Palestinian director Ameen Nayfeh, 200 METERS, is a mature story of a heartbreaking family struggling in an absurd society. (PARK Sungho)
