Three month pregnant Daphne is on a summer vacation with her husband François in the countryside. While Francois is away on a business trip, a relative of his, Maxim, visits the country home. Though Daphne and Maxim meet for the first time, they get close by sharing personal stories of past romance and ongoing relationships. The elegance in the acting by the four actors, including Émilie Dequenne in Rosetta (1999), refined French dialogue, unique plot, and classical music flowing over the film, even let a line in cliché, “when you are on one path, maybe you should follow it and not look back” shines in our hearts. Emmanuel Mouret has made Jacques the Fatalist (1945) into a film Lady J (2018) after Robert Bresson’s The Ladies of the Bois de Boulogne (1945).
