Program Note
Pobun, a Buddhist monk for 6 years, has not yet attained nirvana. Drenched with guilt, he assuages his conscience through ascetic self-regulation. Around this time, he encounters the unorthodox monk, Jisan. While traveling together, Pobun finds Jisan dead, blanketed in snow. Pobun can′t believe how peaceful the corpse appears, with all traces of inner struggle and oblivion effaced. Engaging in universal questions around life, death, and the self, this film probes into humankind′s journey for meaning and how to situate oneself in a world internal, external and eternal.
