Program Note
An unpredictable crime film set in Italy. It deals with the actual revelations that led to the historic punishment of the mafia in Italy. Tommaso Buscetta, who is called the king of the two worlds and enjoys power behind the scenes of the organization ‘Cosa Nostra,’ is in a position to confide not only himself but also his entire "family" life in court. With life′s biggest decision to make, Palermo′s judge Falcone becomes an unexpected companion. A seasoned master does not glorify the criminal behavior of an organization, nor does he bother to emphasize or avoid the genre of pleasure. Instead, he depicts the process of exposing the face of the fallen power by drawing a detailed picture of the interrogation process and the scene of the cross-examination without passing a single shot. The charismatic performance of Pierfrancesco FAVINO, who is familiar to us in Rush: The Rival and World War Z, fills the running time of more than two and a half hours. The masterpiece proves that Marco BELLOCCHIO is a master of the present progressive style that does not rely on his past fame by showing off his lingering presence.(Mann Kim)
