Born in Kabul, Afghanistan. She started her filmmaking journey as a documentary filmmaker. Her documentary film Mohtarama about the Afghan women movement won several awards including the best documentary at Yamagata International Film Festival. Currently, she is developing her first feature film, In the Walnut Shell.
