Program Note
One of the most important elements of a documentary is location. Sometimes the cameraman has a greater role than the director, as evidenced in this documentary which emphasizes camerawork. The seven artists in this documentary, are very active, alive, and share symptoms of Downs syndrome. Society discriminates against these people as handicapped for convenient stereotyping. This film presents an honest documentation of these artists′ thoughts and feelings, and excludes standards set by society. The essence of art is revealed through the work and life of the artists. The unique power of the camera in this film make it more than just a simple presentation of art works by artists with Down′s syndrome. What makes the film stand out further are Inoue Yosui′s music and Sato Makoto′s direction. (Yang Shion)
