Nathuni is a middle-aged woman who lives in a rural village with her bedridden husband and two school-aged children. There is no food at home and no work in the village, and there is a danger of rape even in something as innocuous as a trip to the mountainside to collect firewood. Pushed into a corner, Nathuni leaves early in the morning to go to a bigger neighboring village, located over mountains and across a river. Along the way, she meets a born wanderer Lakhpati, who was abandoned as a child and learned to survive on his own. The two of them keep each other company as they head on to the neighboring village.
With nowhere to turn to and no one to trust, Nathuni meets a good companion named Lakhpati, with whom she can share her heart and pain. After climbing several mountains, they get to the neighboring village, which is busy with road construction by flattening the mountains and removing rocks. Ironically, the place where two people who have nowhere to go after being pushed out of their villages by modernization end up is a construction site where modernization is in full swing. Director Goutam GHOSE, who has made over 20 films since his debut film Maa Bhoomi in 1979, extends warm greetings to the viewers in Busan through this beautifully poetic film. (PARK Sun Young)
