Program Note
Yumi (Choi Sooyoung) is going on a trip to Nagoya, Japan. She plans to surprise her boyfriend, who promised to marry her, working there. But it is another woman waiting for her in his apartment. The woman says she has lived with him for a long time and they are going to get married soon. Her boyfriend just says he′s sorry. After wandering the streets of Nagoya broken hearted, Yumi check into a guesthouse in a blind alley. At the restaurant and guesthouse called End Point, Yumi meets new people. Memories of a Dead End, a movie adaptation of the novel by Yoshimoto Banana, a popular Japanese writer famous for Kitchen, perfectly reflects the writer′s characteristic emotions of healing. Yumi stays in the guesthouse in Nagoya and receives healthy energy from the people she meets there. The people in the guesthouse show a sense of closeness that flirts with making it an ideal community and convey the “small but definite happiness,” commonly referred to as “S.D.H.” (Nam Dong-chul)
