The film follows a man stranded in the Arctic, who is finally about to receive his long awaited rescue. But the helicopter that finally finds him crashes to the ground, the pilot is killed and the passenger severely injured. After the tragic accident his opportunity is lost and it seems that there’s not going to be another rescue mission any time soon. He is left with the injured passenger and now he must make a decision: whether to remain in the relative safety of his camp or embark on a deadly trek through the unknown for potential salvation. Joe Penna’s Arctic is probably the one of the best survival films of the year. Mads Mikkelsen, who plays a man who has to survive through the harshest environment on the earth, turns in a superb performance. Plus, scenes of beautiful but extremely dangerous arctic nature will dazzle audiences, especially on the big screen. Arctic is Penna’s first feature film and premiered at this year’s Cannes.
