The Wild West, circa 1880—Samuel Alabaster ventures to the edge of the frontier to save the kidnapped love of his life, Penelope. He traverses the Wild West with a drunkard and a miniature horse named Butterscotch. However, when they finally find Penelope, it becomes increasingly clear that Samuel is not the hero he claims to be, and Penelope is far from a “damsel in distress.” Damsel is a 2018 American Western-comedy written and directed by David Zellner and Nathan Zellner starring Robert Pattinson and Mia Wasikowska. Considering its weird story and dark humor, Damsel is not the kind of Western you see very often. This is a very subtle Western, where there are no differences between heroes and villains. The Zellner bothers did great job to make Damsel the most unique Western film that anyone has ever seen. The film premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and screened at various prestigious film festivals around the world such as Berlin, SXSW, and Karlovy Vary.
