Program Note
There are people who have their real names and also another name by which they are known. This is the reality of Koreans who live in Japan. Many hidden stories exist, however, of people who give up the Japanese name they have been using to reclaim their Korean name. The camera joins a Korean-Japanese group at a school called "the compatriots group," which participates in a special homeroom event. The theme for this gathering is "discrimination." Much to everyone′s surprise, Mastuda announces his real name: Lee June-Chi. But the continuation of many of these stories is that there are those who go back to using their Japanese names after seeing how their real name provokes prejudice and injustice. All shot in Japan, this film brings to light a new facet of the complicated history of the relations between Korea and Japan through the issue of "naming." (Lee Sang-Yong)
