Program Note
"Hu-Du-Men" refers to the imaginary line in Cantonese opera at the point an actor crosses the stage, becoming the character and leaving behind one′s personal life. It also refers to transgressing other lines, like gender, which Lang Kim-Sum, owner and veteran actress of the Shining Sword Troup, is famous for. Set in today′s Hong Kong, Lang also undergoes life changeovers. Behind her fame and success lurks the anxiety and apprehension of strained family relations and past decisions made to advance her career. Faced with irrepressible challanges, will new lines get crossed?
