Red Rose Jiao-Rui is a passionate woman with a western sense of naivete and self-assurance. She is trapped between the bondage of a husband she doesn′t love and the husband′s friend Zhen-Bao who she is hopelessly in love with. She exiles herself from this tangled relationship when Zhen-Bao abandons Red Rose in defiance of love. Zhen-Bao marries White Rose Yen-Li, a hypersensitive girl who lived through intense hardship to reach adulthood. She tries awkwardly to become a perfect White Rose.
