Program Note
In rural Czech Republic, Vlasta is a caregiver for the sick. After walking long distances every day, carrying a heavy nurse’s bag, she comes home where she lives with her husband Lada. But no one takes care of Vlasta. After getting a checkup, she finds out that it is her, indeed, who needs a caregiver. She starts to try new things now. Against the backdrop of the solitary Czech countryside, Home Care delivers a familiar story about taking care of things around you and discovering a new self with funny and sometimes, heart-warming moments. Wife, mother and caregiver Vlasta, facing a crisis in her life, looks back at herself. A woman who always gave unconditional love and care to others decides to take her life back—a life for herself. In her journey, Vlasta’s family and patients realize that love and care is something that you are given but must also give back. A warm-hearted drama with an excellent performance from Alena Mihulova, who won Best Actress at Karlovy Vary in 2015. (Jin PARK)
