Ivo, without a decent job in Italy, finds a chance for work as an agronomist—what he majored in—and so packs up to leave for Banat. Meeting Clara by chance, as outgoing and incoming tenants, the two have a pleasant evening marked by good feelings. When her job in the shipyard ends, Clara goes to Banat and to Ivo. As their relationship progresses, the question arises as to whether life in exile renders true happiness. The movie inquires about leaving and staying, a nomadic life and living in modern society, from its start in Bari, Italy, to its ending in the bleak Romanian landscape. Wherever they are, the characters face unemployment problems, with nothing certain in the future. The dominating melancholy tones of the landscape play a big part in the film. Long shots emphasize the characters’ position as a part of the space where their inner selves can be observed through the scenery, playing decisive roles in the coherent tone and atmosphere maintained in the film.
