In a small village called "The Endless River" in South Africa, a young woman who works in a restaurant reunites with her husband after four years of his jail term. The couple plans a promising future together. However, when a tragic event befalls a French family on a neighboring farm, the couple’s life collapses. The French man, who lost his wife and children and is angry at the lukewarm investigation by the police, finds out about the murderer and seeks revenge. The male and female protagonists of this film unknowingly fall into a trap of complex human relationships and face a destiny that is increasingly out of their control. And we watch them through the camera to see what choices they make amid this tragedy. The two protagonists eventually begin to feel sympathy for one another and they want to relieve their feelings of vengeance, anger, pain, and find forgiveness by relying upon each other, but it is never easy. Could their bond be called love? It is uncertain where their lives are heading by the end of the film. The Endless River is a dark portrait of wounded souls and recalls a Greek tragedy that the protagonists fall into by the hand of destiny. (RHEE Soue-won)
